We fly home
3,850kms travelled, from home to the amazing Red Centre of Australia. Grant and Nick are driving home through outback South Australia. Gill, Alyssa, Matthew and I are flying home from Uluru.
We haven’t explored the Red Centre since 2017, and we didn’t have a 4WD then, so decided it’s time to go back! We’re travelling with some great friends. Matthew and I are flying home from Uluru, and the menfolk are going to explore outback South Australia as they meander their way home.
FUN FACT: Uluru is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

A terrific day exploring Kata Tjuta (or The Olgas as they used to be known) – we did the Valley of the Winds Walk, and Walpa Gorge.

A fabulous day bike riding around Uluru, followed by sunset drinks and nibbles watching the colours change.

A couple of beautiful short walks in Watarrka National Park before we continue to our final destination – Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park.

A very tiring but amazing day on the Kings Canyon Rim Walk. I think we will all sleep well tonight.

A very fun muddy drive along the Mereenie Loop Road to Kings Canyon. Live music, drinks and canapes watching the sunset over Kings Canyon, followed by an interesting cultural experience.

We drive through the gorgeous West MacDonnell Ranges to Glen Helen Gorge. On a 39 degree day we enjoy a glorious swim at Ormiston Gorge.

We spend the day exploring Finke Gorge National Park – simply breathtaking! It’s a hot day but we take it easy and visit Palm Valley and Kalarranga Lookout.

Let the exploring begin! We visit the West MacDonnell Ranges and take the 4WD track into Finke Gorge National Park to camp at Palm Valley.

The weather heats up and we cross the Northern Territory border. The last of the big drive days 🙂

After a chilly start the day warms up quickly. We see rockets and salt lakes, and arrive to the moonscape that is Coober Pedy as the sun sets.

We travel across multiple borders today, and make it to camp just as the sun is setting. A day of many varied landscapes.

I’m very excited to be returning to the Red Centre. Such an amazing part of the world. We are travelling with friends, which makes it all the more fun.
