A delightful start to the day! After a well-deserved early night, I woke early and enjoyed the sunrise. The morning air was cool and crisp as I walked to the new Town Beach Jetty area, surrounded by red dirt and magnificent boab trees – a true representation of the Kimberley’s unique charm.
As I reached the beach, I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony. Such a stunning coastline, yet swimming is off-limits due to the abundance of warning signs (and crocodiles!) Matthew even remarked that he had never seen so many cautionary notices in one place before!
One of the remarkable things about this area is the incredible tides. At certain times, the difference between high and low can reach a staggering 9 meters. It’s astonishing how the landscape transforms with the ebb and flow of the ocean. It truly feels like exploring two entirely different worlds depending on the time of day.
Later, Matthew and I strolled into town and decided to visit the Broome Courthouse Markets. We both decided on fabulous new hats! Matthew opted for one adorned with crocodile parts – always adding his unique touch to things.
As per Matthew’s customary sweet tooth, our next mission was to find some ice cream. And lo and behold, we succeeded!
We spent the rest of the day taking it easy, eagerly awaiting Grant’s arrival. It’s been nearly two weeks since we last saw him. He had to leave early when Matthew tested positive for COVID, but now he’s made an incredible journey of 5,800 kms to be here. From traversing through outback Queensland to crossing the Northern Territory and finally reaching Western Australia, his efforts are truly amazing, and I couldn’t be prouder of the tremendous effort he’s made to get here. Grant has been accompanied by our friend Steve and his 16-year-old son, Ben, who just obtained his Learner’s Permit and has been sharing the driving duties with Steve. It sounds like they’ve had an incredible adventure together.
At Grant’s request, dinner again at Matso’s Brewery! The barramundi is amazing …
