So the downside to the overcast weather yesterday is that the solar panels aren’t putting much in the way of power into the camper batteries. Steve and Ben are basically out of power, so head off early. We are getting pretty low. This is the first time we’ve travelled with a fridge / freezer, and man does it chew some power (although it’s nice having ice blocks on a hot day!) We’ve also brought lots of pre-prepared meals from home in the freezer, so cooking has been much easier than on our last camping trip.

We heard the dingos again in the night – both Matthew and Ben had them come right up to their tents in the night! I haven’t seen one in the flesh yet.

We have a leisurely morning packing up the camper – it is hot and windy!! The drive around to Glen Helen Gorge is absolutely gorgeous. We haven’t spent much time in this area before – I’d definitely like to return one day. There are heaps of gorges and walks to explore.

A cyclone hit the coast of Western Australia last night, and they are forecasting we’ll see rain and high winds tomorrow. The temperatures are then going to drop dramatically (thank god for that!)

We reach Glen Helen early – we’re staying in a caravan park that has recently been purchased by a big mob called G’Day Parks. They have certainly ploughed some money into the park – brand new amenities block. There is also a restaurant and small pool, and a deck with gorgeous views overlooking the gorge. It’s hard to comprehend that the weather is going to turn so dramatically overnight, but we prepare for the worst as we’ve been told the winds could be very high and up to 70mm of rain forecast for tomorrow. Steve and Ben make the very smart decision to grab the last room at the resort, as their tents aren’t really suitable to spend a couple of days soaking wet.

After a picnic lunch and a wander down to the gorge we decide to drive to Ormiston Gorge for a swim. It’s now 39 degrees … and man is that swim nice 🙂 This is the last really hot day we’ll have on the trip, and I’m certainly glad we went for a swim – it was absolutely gorgeous.
