What a day! I don’t think it could have been more different to yesterday … yesterday we awoke to a very crisp 5 degree morning, and today it got to 43 degrees … crazy man …

A gorgeous start to the day – Grant and I sat and watched the sun rise (and let me tell you, Grant isn’t often awake this early!) Coober Pedy is such a crazy place – you could be on another planet.

We all go our separate ways this morning to do a bit of sight seeing, refuel etc, with the aim to meet up and travel in convoy north today. We have CB radios which is a good way to stay in touch and pass the time on a long day.

Grant, Matthew and I have a wander around Coober Pedy then hit the road! It is deemed the Opal Capital of the World.

A quick lunch stop in Marla, which isn’t a town – really just a big roadhouse. It is HOT!!! The forecast is for some very hot weather, so the next few days could be interesting …. definitely not feeling like we will need a campfire anytime soon …

We cross the Northern  Territory border in the afternoon, which is always super exciting. The countryside is very green following a wet few years. It’s surprising to see so much undergrowth – some of the trips we’ve done along this stretch of road it’s just red dirt.

We decide to try a free camp on the side of the road tonight – it’s got long drop toilets but no showers – it’s pretty good!
